Help record the amazing story of Greenham Common
with the support of leading media professionals.
Calling future broadcasters! There is an opportunity to get involved in Greenham: 100 Years of War and Peace, a large-scale community event which takes place on 8 and 9 September on Greenham Common. The event will portray 100 years of the history of the Common and the dramatic moments of war and peace that form part of that history. It celebrates 20 years of Greenham Trust who have given over £40 million to local good causes and is also supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
A series of free radio and social media workshops for volunteers age 18 to 25 are being offered by Fete Day and Rosa Productions, who are producing the event on behalf of Greenham Trust. In partnership with BBC Radio Berkshire and under the supervision of media professionals, they will teach budding broadcasters radio skills to help gather and record memories of Greenham Common that will emerge from Greenham: 100 Years of War & Peace, a unique series of events that will mark the 20th anniversary of the Greenham Trust in September 2017. This is an amazing opportunity to learn from, and work alongside, media professionals and contribute to BBC local radio output and museum exhibitions.
During the workshops a BBC radio expert will take you through some key radio production skills – identifying stories; researching and preparing for interviews; interviewing and editing skills; reporting from location and podcasts. A local social media expert will take students through an introduction to using social media platforms. Students will conduct interviews with some live guests, and attend the main Greenham: 100 Years of War and Peace events to gather audio and stories which will be offered to various outlets, from online to the BBC. All these skills are relevant for anyone interested in media careers in radio, TV, print and online.
