2344 of West Berkshire’s businesses are being supported through business rate relief, according to recent analysis.
The figures, compiled by West Berkshire Council, show that 41% of the district’s 5716 business rated properties are receiving some form of relief on their business rates due to targeted schemes designed to help those operating in specific industries. These include pub relief, small business relief and rural rate relief.
Responding to these results, James Fredrickson, Executive Member for Economic Development, said: “Over the last couple of years we have really been pushing the relief schemes available to our local businesses – making sure that they are aware of them and that they are able to access the support we can offer.
“These figures show that a wide range of West Berkshire’s small and medium businesses are taking advantage of these schemes – and it’s great to see that this is supporting the current record number of businesses we currently have in the area.
“Starting a business from scratch is incredibly difficult but many, many people are choosing West Berkshire to do just that. As a council we are doing all we can to helping them. We appreciate the challenges they are facing and as part of our commitment to being open for business we are working with them to meet them.”
