Festival of Engineering

As part of the Thames Valley corridor, West Berkshire is a thriving place for companies in the engineering sector and with that comes an ever-increasing need for people with expertise in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Lots of work is going on to try and fill this ‘skills gap’, encouraging young people, especially girls, to take STEM subjects at school and go on, either via apprenticeships or university, to choose careers in this sector.

This month, I am co-hosting a ‘Festival of Engineering’ with my next-door MP Kit Malthouse, working with the Education Business Partnership West Berkshire to bring together local companies and young people from schools across West Berkshire and North Hampshire. The event is being held in Xtrac’s amazing new factory space in Kennet Park and will offer the students a series of hands-on, interactive activities which are designed to involve, inspire and enthuse them.
