The Blue Space was officially launched in 2016 by the mayor of Basingstoke and our supporters include Andrew Bishop the chief medical officer of the North Hampshire NHS Trust and the Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy units within the hospital. We also have the support of The Basingstoke Prostate Support Group, and welcome Men with any cancer diagnosis.
Our Blue space sessions offer an opportunity to get information, help combat stress with therapies (massage, reflexology, barbering) and chat to others. We also encourage partners to attend these sessions.
We also regularly hold partner evenings and day trips, these are social events and include curry nights, BBQs and trips to the coast. This provides an opportunity for couples to meet and share experiences and tips on dealing with a diagnosis in a non-clinical environment, it’s also an opportunity to have fun and make new friendships.
The Blue Space also runs a monthly support group for men whose wife/partner has a cancer diagnosis. This is run by our trained counsellor.
The support group meets every 2nd Tuesday a month between 7:30 pm and 9.30pm.
We also run a Blue Space Ladies support group, this is for women whose husband/partner has cancer and this group again meets every 2nd Tuesday between 2pm and 4pm.
The Blue space provides free services and support to men with a cancer diagnosis and their loved ones.
Here is a few quotes from The Blue Space Guests:
I found it good to have somewhere I could talk to others who understood.
I came to The Blue Space because my wife wanted me to, I came back because I wanted to.
There is no support for my husband in the area, he has rare cancer. Thanks to the Blue Space he has found comfort and support and knows he is not alone.
A fantastic charity, I would encourage anyone with a cancer diagnosis to go along, not only for you but for your wife also, the support we have both received has been very beneficial, the therapies are also very relaxing.
