Happy New Year and I hope you’ve all had a relaxing festive period with your loved ones.
2019 is going to be another busy year and I’m looking forward to rolling my sleeves up and getting cracking!
Building homes – more, better, faster – will continue to be my priority and I will do everything I can to move towards our target of 300,000 new homes a year by the mid-2020s. We need more homes, but we also need them to be better designed and better suited to local needs. We must build the communities that we will be proud to call ‘home’ for generations to come.
As we build for everyone, we must also protect our beautiful countryside and I’ll be chairing a panel discussion in conjunction with The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), where we will look at how we can better assimilate local people’s views into planning – especially Neighbourhood Plans and affordable housing.
Finally, I will do whatever I can to help heal the country’s wounds during what has been one of the most intense and torrid political periods in our country’s history.
With best wishes for a happy and successful 2019.
